Engine Fault Diagnostic

We all know how frustrating starting difficulties, backfiring and hesitation during acceleration attempts can be when there is work to be done. We are often quick to blame these symptoms on timing or carburettor problems, however they may not be related at all. It may simply be a faulty Oil Alert Control Unit (see photo). Try disconnecting the wiring of the Oil Alert Control Unit and operating the engine without it! It will be obvious whether the Control Unit was the problem or not and of course be sure there is enough oil in the engine at all times.
