Proper maintenance is important to ensuring that your investment continues to perform month in month out, and year in year out. Here are some maintenance tips for your Kohler engine to help you maximise its performance and economy.

1. Get your hands on a user manual

If you don’t already have one, they are invaluable in helping you achieve the best performance for your Kohler engines and to maximise your investment.

Not all companies offer free user and services manuals but Kohler does, so take advantage of it, hop onto the Kohler website to download your manual.

2. Pay attention to the warnings listed in the manual

Nobody likes losing fingers or starting fires in the workshop, or damaging an engine that could have performed well for many more years to come.

3. Get into the habit of the start-up check list

Before starting up the engine, check the fuel and oil levels, check the air cleaner and intake areas for dirt, grime or obstructions and follow your engine’s maintenance schedule.

4. Use only the best to keep it running its best

Only use genuine Kohler spares and Oil in your engine to ensure full compatibility. Do not use any fuel or oil additives in Kohler engines. These could cause serious damage or rapid deterioration of the engine or components. Use only 90 octane unleaded petrol or higher and no more than 10% ethanol content. Fuel stabilisers may be used if the engine is to be stored for prolonged periods of time.
